A brief history about Morsarvet af Sjöfälla
The beginning
Let’s go back in time some 300 years. As far as history tells, the first “known” settlement and buildings here at “M” were established about 1720. “Sjöfälla” was at the time a sub farm to the once grand and large farm Ebbarp. Ebbarp which you can see remainings from almost 1km west from here. For a long time it was owned by the family Lagerqvist. It went in the sword line for generations until late 1800s.
A new way of thinking
The family had several children, and when it was time for succession, several sub sections were made for a more “liberal” and democratic handling of the succession (compared to how it always was before, that the eldest son inherited the whole farm, and the siblings had to either marry rich, or work very hard to get their own farm). The main estate was inherited by the daughter Svea Lagerqvist, who later married a man called “Gustaf Printz”. Gustaf already ran another farm and therefore continued to run Ebbarp remotely and the buildings were rented out to lessees.
Sjöfälla becomes Morsarvet
One of the four sub sections was “Sjöfälla”, which after a few different owners was bought by Adolf Sjöbring. He was able to buy it with the inheritance he received after his late mother. To honor her he also renamed the farm from Sjöfälla to Morsarvet which means in straight English translation “Mother’s Inheritance”. Adolf, who went by the nickname “Alof”, later married a Mss Victoria (called “Tora”) from Stockholm.
Victoria Sjöbring and her influence
Tora was a strong, interesting and ambitious woman, she ran several businesses and community engagements at Morsarvet. She ran for instance various plantations and helped housing children. A few unique features were installed in the Main building, as for instance “S” shaped (for Sjöbring) iron cast handlebars in the staircase. She was passionate and driven, and perhaps even a bit too strong for Alof, who unfortunately wasn’t as successful in his business, the tale tells that he instead sought friendship in the Wine God Bacchus. Alof passed away middle aged and Tora came in sole control of Morsarvet. 10:14
The party decades
As Victoria didn’t have Adolf anymore her social engagements increased. Her sister Hanny Schedin was an actress playing the bigger stages and her friends were among that time’s crème de la crème and actor elite. The story tells about many parties and get-togethers at Morsarvet especially during the 1940’s and 1950’s. A few examples of celebrities having visited Morsarvet are; Povel Ramel, Martin Ljung and Brita Borg.
Family Hagerbonn takes over
In 1961, Tora had come to an age were she felt she needed to pull down on her engagement at M, and a sale was the next step. Eventually Morsarvet was acquired the first Hagerbonn (Eva and Einar), they came from Stockholm and the present ownership era began. Tora though wanted to remain at M and a new sub section was made three hundred meters south of the farm yard, were she had a house built for herself. She picked a beautiful spot, with the house situated on a cliff, overlooking Lillnömmen.
Connecting the history through the name
At the time of writing this text we now have four generations of Hagerbonn and we continue to run business and let visitors enjoy Morsarvet. With our family taking over, it was no longer an inheritance that acquired the farm. But our will to rather connect the history in the name was more important, therefore the two historical names were added into one making it “Morsarvet af Sjöfälla” – the Mother Legacy of Sjöfälla. During our reign we have aimed at refurbishing and enhancing things with a focus at tourism. Since 2011 we have been renting out our two wing buildings Norra and Södra Annexen.
